A torsion pendulum is a device in which a disc or body is suspended by a thin wire or rod and allowed to twist about its vertical axis. When the body is rotated and released, the wire produces a restoring torque that causes the body to oscillate back and forth in rotational motion. The time period of a torsion pendulum depends on: the moment of inertia of the suspended body, and the torsional constant (rigidity) of the wire.
